What a Bird Needs

Full Transparency:  After experiencing a handful of similar queries and criticisms regarding the size of our FarmGoneWild Bluebird houses, another comment landed in my Etsy Shop inbox from someone simply called Joe.  I began drafting a response which was, most likely, far more information… Continue Reading “What a Bird Needs”

Leatherwing

Leatherwing. That’s a cool name for an insect. Apparently, the folks who first name it felt that the texture of its wings looks like leather. These are Pennsylvania Leatherwing Beetles (Chauliognathus pensylvanicus) that I observed here in the past few days. “This beetle has… Continue Reading “Leatherwing”

Migration Forthcoming

Where did summer go? Many species have already migrated south. On my recent trip around the farm, I found the silence deafening. Three, Maybe Four

Lucky Capture

My lens was pointed toward an Eastern Bluebird nest box when I noticed a very small, “whiteness” in the top of an old tree about 650 feet away – at the SE corner of our property. I know distances on our farm because when… Continue Reading “Lucky Capture”

Dragonfly Voguing

I came upon this Dragonfly perched on a dry stem. I believe this is a Widow Skimmer. As I focused my lens and snapped, he slowly rotated around the reed, showing me all his sides.
