Hopeful

This lovely Eastern Bluebird pair has been stopping by to explore the nest box that is not far from my office window. I’m hopeful that they will make a final decision soon, so that I can have an intimate view of their progress from nest building to fledging their chicks. Fingers crossed!

The male (deeper blue and red coloring) arrives first. If his mate is interested in the possible housing choice, she will join him on the box. He then enters the box as if to do a preliminary check. They may sit for a while, with him inside and her atop, as they evaluate the overall neighborhood!

A pair can take their time looking at many options before making a decision on where to raise their brood.

If she’s interested, she awaits his departure and then enters the nest box. Hubby remains atop the box to keep an eye on things.

On this day, Wifie remained in the box for a good long while and they both spent time looking around, while he periodically looked down to check on her.

After his mate flew off, the male remained behind, perhaps to continue his review of the location for such an important undertaking.

I filmed this Bluebird couple two days ago, and I have seen them in and around the nest box several times both yesterday and today. I remain hopeful they will put down their deposit on this housing for the season!
