Flicker

Until I was able to lighten the image on my computer, I had only observed the silhouette of a black bird with a long beak. I thought it was probably a Starling! But, it was a Northern Flicker.

A few days earlier, I had seen birds out in Jaye’s pasture – very far off, hopping on the ground. They hopped like Robins. But, there was something just a bit different. When, I enlarged the images, they were Northern Flickers.

Almost a month earlier, I was able to capture my best photos of the Flicker, while he perched in the Ponderosa Pine trees.

I’ve also seen a Flicker sharing a tree with Eastern Bluebirds around the same time as Ifilmed them in the pines.

Now the the trees had shed their leaves, and I suppose also now that I can recognize their vocalizations, I’m excited to possible get even better photos of this very interesting bird.
