“Tree for two. Your table is ready for you, Mr. and Mrs. Finch.”
About two weeks ago I noticed that a couple of the remaining apples on the tree in the corridor had become snacks for a critter. I put up a trail cam and also sat patiently, but the camera was a bust and those apples were eaten to the core. So, I secured another apple on coat hanger wire, and sat patiently. I captured some nice images of Rose Breasted Grosbeaks fueling themselves on the fruit. The photos included a male in transitional plumage, which was quite interesting. You can view those photos HERE.
Hoping to get additional pictures, and because the couple of fruits had been picked to their cores, we hung two more apples. But, for a week, they were not touched. That is not until yesterday when I saw evidence of nibbling.
Today, I endured a very cold wind and temps in the mid-fifties (I wish I had taken a hat and gloves!) but it was worth it. As I arrived to my spot near the tree, I saw a bird fly off. It was a good, long while before he returned, and his brought his dinner date. Each bird took a position on their own choice of fruit. I got the idea they had visited this diner before. Then, after some time, Wifie thought she should check in on Hubby’s selection. Apparently, she thought he had the better fruit and she pressed him to consider trying her branch. He must not have been as picky as she. He was content eating that apple as much as the first one he chose.
These photos are of a lovely pair of House Finches clearly enjoying their Sunday Brunch.

Then, after he had his fill, the male flitted over to check on his gal. She was still eating, so he did what most guys do after a good meal, he picked the food out of his “teeth.”

Love Finches. See them in my yard now and then. Very nice post and your photos are great.
