Bluebirds in House D2

It was very late in what had been a very overcast day. However the radar suggested that the clouds were about to pass. So, I went out to check out what was happening around the property.

This pair of Eastern Bluebirds is feeding chicks. The nest site is situated in a location where very tall trees would soon cast shade on their house. I feel fortunate that I was able to capture some images of these lovely gems in that short window of late day sun!

The next two photos are of the handsome male.

The next photos are not amazing in quality, but I still like to share the amazing skills of these little birds. This is the female carrying some sort of big grub. She arrived from the right, skidded to a stop atop the roof, then flew away to the left, did a 180 turn midair within a few inches of the house, then landed at the opening hole.

This next photo shows mama looking into the nest – even though we humans sometimes perceive it as looking towards the camera.

Content with what she observed of her chicks, she did another 180 turn and pressed off the house and was airborne again.

Here, the female approaches from the left.

Here’s her mate that brought yet another meal for the chicks.
