Staying Young

I don’t know if it’s merely a result of the times or that I am just getting old. But, I can’t keep up with all the slang words that are routinely toss around.

Is “sick” good, really?

One word that took me a while to fully comprehend was the word, “hack.”

You can hack something up and destroy it. You can hack a computer and steal information. But, apparently hack can be a positive event or thing, as well.

Urbandictionary.com:

3. To jury-rig or improvise something inelegant but effective, usually as a temporary solution to a problem.

It’s good to hack (verb) or create a hack (noun) and people love to share their unique “hacks” with the world in social media.

Here’s my hack!

When I wanted to put out grape jelly for the Orioles that were arriving after a long migration, I found that my feeder was broken. So, I grabbed a clear glass dish from my kitchen merely because it was there and it was the right size. I filled it with jelly and set it out for the birds.

Only once I took a few photos of a Baltimore Oriole that arrived, did I realize the value of my choice of vessels. The see-through option provides a view that would not have been possible with a solid colored dish. Good hack, eh?
