The number of species that spend the winter here on our property isn’t very extensive. Many that do winter here will leave for more northerner areas to breed. But, the Northern Cardinal is here all year long. Recently, I’ve heard the males begin to vocalize and it seems there’s quite a bit of Cardinal activity out in the pastures and even in the backyard, where we offered food during the February Deep Freeze.
Here are some photos of these absolutely beautiful birds that I’ve taken in the past ten days. Perhaps I will be lucky and be able to identify a nesting site and take some photos of the Cardinals as they rear they chicks.
