Inspired by Dogs & Nature
After many days of flurries, freezing rain and more rain… finally the sun came. All was well with the world…well, except for the mud. I hate the mud. If I didn’t have several dogs that required time outdoors (in the mud), I wouldn’t have such a disdain for the stuff. The clay soil gets tracked in, dries and turns to the finest dust that gets redistributed on every surface in the house.
Yesterday, with the tranquillity that comes with feeling the sun on one’s skin, I went out to explore the world, feed the birds and hopefully get a few good shots. I wasn’t disappointed. With temperatures in the forties and the heated blanket across my lap, I actually never felt a need to don my gloves. That makes operating a camera much easier.
There weren’t any surprise visitors. I did hear many crows and was hoping to get a sighting, but that didn’t materialize. But, here’s a quick audio file. You’d think it was the set of the movie “The Birds.”
On the other hand, I did get some great shots of “the usual suspects” that I share with you here:
NORTHERN CARDINAL (male)
CAROLINA WREN
I think these are the best (as in most clear) images I have ever recorded of this cute little species.
CHICKADEE (Black-capped or Carolina – the verdict is still out as the experts are split 50/50 regarding what species they believe it might be)
DOWNY WOODPECKER (male has the red at the back of his head, the female is lacking that marking.)
RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER
NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD
WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW
TUFTED TITMOUSE
I filmed many House Finches, as they are very numerous, so I plan to create a page specific to those birds. I’ll get that uploaded soon.
Even though these photos are similar to ones I’ve posted before, I never get tired of watching or filming them. I learn something new every time I take the time to relax and enjoy their company.
