128 Species and Counting

To be honest, when I first started blogging, I didn’t really know the difference between a POST and a PAGE.

“Birds In Our Backyard” is a PAGE on my blog because it’s not often updated and deserves a link that is easy to access. It can be found in the header bar of the home page.

The Birds In Our Backyard page is the place where I post ALL OF THE BIRD species that I have documented during my jaunts around our property – a 50 acre parcel of rural land in central Illinois. I’m not sure if my number of 128 is fair, good or excellent for my location, but it impresses me! It actually amazes me, since when I first started driving around in my golf cart with a camera, it was an accomplishment in itself after having been mostly bound to my home due to a very painful autoimmune condition. Identifying species of birds was not my mission. My goal was to be in Nature for the incredible therapy it offers.

But then, I started keeping track of the species I filmed and eventually, I created the Birds in Our Backyard page. When I identify a species I’ve never documented before, I add it to my list.

This month I was able to add a photo of the Yellow-Breasted Chat. It’s a species that had been on the list as an audio recording only. Finally, after five years, a Chat showed itself to me and I was able to snap some photos.

Since updates to Pages are not usually communicated with subscribers, people can miss out when I make additions. So, I’m making this Post to invite you to visit the Page!

And let me know what you think!
