It’s a Bunny Year

I suppose it’s because the Cottontail Rabbit is a game meat that its population dynamics have been studied ad nauseam. The numbers of these cuties fluctuates quite cyclically. Having lived at this property now for twenty-four years, I’ve come to recognize “big bunny years” from an average years and also years when I seen almost none.

I’ve seen more rabbits this year than in the past four or five years. I happen to love this lovely lagomorph. When I see one (or two or three that I’ll observe together in a “high population year”), I take the time to capture their image.

Typically, when a rabbit detects me, it will remain as still as a statue. However, the other day I turned down the path on the north side of the pond inlet, and encountered this bunny that took time to “vogue” for me!

I shot this video mostly to capture the amazing song of the Gray Catbird that was hidden in the shadow of the nearby tree, but I figured I might as well focus on this sweetie!

Turn up the volume to hear the Catbird vocalizations.
