The Baltimore Oriole

Like the Orchard Oriole, that I highlighted in my last post, the Baltimore Oriole also winters in southern Mexico and northern South America. They can also be found during the “off season” in most of Florida and across the Caribbean.

A couple of weeks ago, I was fortunate to catch a couple images of a juvenile Baltimore Oriole that landed in a small scrub tree not far from where I sat filming a Bluebird couple.

I’ve also been able to film an adult male or possible a couple of them, have been visiting our grape jelly feeder, too.

I also offer small oranges for the Orioles. I haven’t caught them on film eating them, but as I am writing this I just watched both a male Baltimore and Orchard Orioles checking out my fruit feeder. The Orchard oriole also flew over to a Hummingbird feeder. They are known to sip nectar from those feeders. It’s cold today, especially for late May. It’s only going to reach 62 F today. Perhaps, they are seeking more sugar to make it through the cold nights ahead. It’s supposed to drop into the 40’s tonight.
