LEADERSHIP

It can be amazingly easy to train a dog and seemingly impossible, too.

For me, the skills necessary for success all have two sides that sit precariously atop a fulcrum that can drop you to your knees or boost your sense of accomplishment in an instant.

The most important quality necessary to partner with a dog is your presence. However, that’s not a singular characteristic.

It’s not easy to be calm and attentive at the same time.

It’s hard to be relaxed but prepared in the same moment.

It can be very challenging to remain strong while projecting an effortless attitude.

But, more than anything else, you must be confident and yet humble, too.

I learned about that absolute need for humility from my first Border Collie Shamaron – that was back in the late 80’s. I try hard not to forget his teachings.

I don’t always succeed. I think I am successful more than I fail, but that’s up to interpretation – including a review from the dog.

If you have ever loved a dog before, I think you’d love my book:

SHAMARON Dog Devoted.
