This Eastern Bluebird couple fledged their first brood from a different nest box a couple of weeks ago. Then, a House Wren pair took possession of the box and they are incubating eggs there.
Now, these handsome Bluebirds are checking out this wooden box at the north end of our Pond Meadow.
I love this phase of their reproductive process, when they are flirty and highly interactive with each other. They seem giddy and excited to start all over again with a new clutch of lovely, blue eggs that will hatch into needy chicks and just weeks later, take their first flight from the bird house.
But, first the male seeks out options to show his mate. He enters it to entice her to check it out. They hang out and around the place to determine its suitability for the most precious process. If she approves, she will begin to build a nest.

The male looks like he’s checking out the integrity of the place while the female is checking out the view of the neighborhood!

What ever option they choose, I hope they have a nest full of healthy eggs soon!
So poetic!
