You know the old joke….
A warbler, a flycatcher and a bluebird go into a bar……
OK. So, you don’t know that joke. But, the other day, as the sun was setting, I experienced something peculiar that reminded me of that joke by way of my memory of the 1980’s television show, Cheers. It was a sit-com which revolved around a group of people who routinely interacted at the neighborhood bar – “where everybody knows your name.” What I saw was while watching the birds at sunset (a typical time to go to a bar after work), were small assemblies of different species landing in the same tree.
The photo above shows (top to bottom) a Yellow-rumped warbler, an Eastern Wood PeWee and an Eastern Bluebird together.
Here are a few more – presented here for content and not the quality of the images. It was quite late and the sun was fading fast. I apologize for the poor presentation. Still, I think these curious groupings are interesting to share.
Bluebird (top left), Warbler (right center), Female Indigo Bunting (right bottom) and I am not sure about the bunting identification.

Next photo: Cedar Waxwing (top), an Eastern Wood PeWee (bottom left) and a female Rose-breasted Grosbeak (right.)

Female Blue Grosbeak and a little, Yellow-rumped Warbler.

The more I hang out with animals (whether it’s my dogs or watching birds) the more I think we are more similar than different. I happen to feel that way about humans, too…most of the time.
