Inspired by Dogs & Nature
The last two days afforded me the opportunity to get outside and check out the early Spring Migration.
I encountered a pair of Ring-neck ducks on the pond. I didn’t even know there was such a species. It was incredibly relaxing to sit and watch the pair slowly move across the water’s surface. These birds became the 84th species that I have evidenced through photos (or audio recordings for a couple of elusive species) since I began keeping track back in June 2020. This Spring Migration should offer up a few additional species, if I am fortunate enough to catch them while they are here. I’m hoping to reach 100 species that have visited or make a living on our little piece of land in central Illinois. HERE’S the entire list of BIRDS IN OUR BACKYARD
Here are some other pretty birds that I filmed in the past couple of sunny days.
Aptly named, Brown-headed Cowbird.
Handsome Northern Cardinal
Carolina/Black-capped Chickadee (verdict is still out on which species we have here)
Dark-eyed Junco
American Goldfinch – in transitional coloring
White-crowned Sparrows
Downy Woodpecker
Common Grackle
American Robin – with a worm
Swamp Sparrow – new species for my list (comes in at #83)
And, one last “pretty bird” photo – the art which rises from errors is still art.
Wow that’s a lot of birds so far! I hope you reach your 100 target soon, it’s very impressive to document this and a joy to see. Keep it up!
Thank you!
