Inspired by Dogs & Nature
During the heat of the summer, I frequently saw Northern Mockingbirds in several areas of our property. They became one of my favs because they were willing to stay still in one place while I honed my skills using a camera. It wasn’t unusual for a Mockingbird to perch atop a fence post or on a wire and sing its repertoire of bird vocalizations for minutes on end. It’s quite impressive, actually, to listen to their exceedingly long play list.
As autumn approached, I was worried it wouldn’t be until Spring that I saw them again. But, we are lucky to be just inside their northern most wintering zone. I have been able to film them quite often this winter. Mockingbirds enjoy fruits, like the grapes that I offer, as well as peanuts and the dried meal worms. Taken a couple days ago, these photos below show a Mockingbird’s love for peanut suet nuggets. They were shot in the late afternoon subdued light (of a slightly overcast sky) and capture some of the rich hues in their feathers which are often lost in previous images I’ve taken.
