Inspired by Dogs & Nature
There’s a small stand of tall grasses not far from our house to the north. Often, when I am coming back to the house from a drive around the fields, I catch a glimpse of blue. There are a few Indigo Buntings that seem particularly attracted to that tall grass. They flit in for a snack, then fly off to the mature trees to the east.
Sometimes I stop and attempt to get a photo. Here are a couple of my earlier attempts.

I wasn’t satisfied with the quality of those images, although the one on the left has an ‘artistic’ feel about it which several people have commented they appreciate.
Late yesterday I decided to give it a go, again. I’m happy with these images, both from a composition perspective and from the photographic quality. They aren’t going to win any awards, but I feel very satisfied that I captured the essence of this lovely species. It almost seems too tropical to reside in central Illinois!

When I was showing my husband these photos, about the next one he questioned, “What is that dark stuff splattered on his head?” I have to admit I had the same first impression. That is a shadow of the grass plant above him!

Very nice Indigo Bunting pictures!
Beautiful. I have many of these in my yard each year. I grow a section of tall grass just so they will visit every year. I also get the multi-colored buntings.
