Our Hummingbirds are plentiful this year. I would like to think it’s because we have provided a reliable food source for a couple of years, and the offspring of the birds that has been successful at rearing chicks are coming back!

In the evening (even after the sun has set) it can feel like there’s a feeding frenzy transpiring on my office patio. If you sit out there, you might feel like you are watching a game of Quidditch (the Harry Potter flying broomstick competition).

We keep feeders in several places around the house so that one male cannot dominate all the nectar, because typically the males (red chin marking) become quite territorial around the food sources, and chase off the others. But, these two girls held their own and he retreated.

As I was filming the sun fell below the roof of the house and shade took over the feeder space. It’s too bad because otherwise most of these shots would have been really notable. I hope you enjoy them, nonetheless.

It’s truly a treat to have these birds around because they appear to have no fear of humans and buzz around us as if we aren’t even here! I wonder if the perceive us as “Gulliver.”
